Take Me Home: PetSmart National Adoption Week Event
Let’s find homes for every dog — starting with yours.
The Hamilton/Burlington SPCA is proud to participate in PetSmart National Adoption Week with a very special event at PetSmart Barton. Join us for Take Me Home — a celebration of second chances and the unconditional love that rescue dogs bring into our lives.
Whether you're ready to adopt, considering fostering, or simply want to learn more about responsible dog ownership, this event is for you.
Why Attend?
Thousands of dogs across Canada are waiting for homes — and many of the dogs at the HBSPCA have been waiting far too long. These incredible animals are loving, resilient, and ready to be part of a family. The Take Me Home event is your chance to meet them face-to-face, hear their stories, and potentially give one a forever home.
What to Expect at the Event
Meet & Greet Our Adoptable Dogs
Get to know our available shelter dogs in a safe, welcoming environment. You’ll be able to spend time with them one-on-one, guided by experienced volunteers who can share each dog’s background, personality, and special needs.
Same-Day Adoptions Available
Found your match? You may be able to take your new best friend home that very day! Our team will be on hand to help you complete an adoption application on-site. Adoptions are subject to meeting our standard adoption requirements, including:
- A completed application form and valid piece of ID (address included)
- A conversation with our adoption team to ensure a good match
- A secure and safe home environment
You’ll also receive a PetSmart Adoption Kit with coupons and goodies to help you get started.
Not Ready to Adopt? Consider Fostering!
Fostering saves lives. If you’re not quite ready to adopt but want to help, talk to us about becoming a foster caregiver. You’ll provide love and care for a shelter dog in your home while we continue working to find them a permanent placement.
Dog Training & Support Resources
Want to ensure a smooth transition for your new pet? Stop by our Dog Training Table to learn about classes and workshops offered through K9 Principles, our trusted training partner. Classes include:
- Puppy Preschool
- Level One and Two Obedience
- Workshops on leash walking, jumping, and more
Our trainers use positive reinforcement techniques and are here to support dogs at all life stages.
Volunteer & Foster Info Booth
Our dedicated volunteers make events like this possible. Visit our Volunteer & Foster Info Table to learn how you can give back — whether it’s walking dogs, helping at events, or opening your home temporarily to an animal in need.
Dog Chaperones On Site
Each dog at the event will be accompanied by a trained volunteer who knows them well. These "chaperones" help answer questions, ensure smooth meet-and-greets, and advocate for the dogs in their care.
Why Adopt from the HBSPCA?
Adopting from the HBSPCA means giving an animal a second chance at life — and gaining a loyal, loving companion in return. All of our dogs come:
- Spayed or neutered
- Up-to-date on vaccinations
- Microchipped
- Fully health-checked by our veterinary team
Plus, your adoption supports our mission to protect and care for vulnerable animals in our community.
Help Us Spread the Word!
Invite your friends, family, and fellow animal lovers! Every visit and every conversation brings us closer to finding homes for all our dogs — especially our longest residents who have been waiting patiently for their forever families.
