Doing business while loving animals
Roxane Dunmore of Aran Awards and Engraving loves to combine her passion for her business and her dedication to an organization which supports animals.
Aran Awards and Engraving is the first local business which has signed on to the HBSPCA’s new Kennel Guardian program.
Roxane and her husband John acquired Aran Awards and Engraving in 2010. Roxane’s dad had built the HBSPCA’s original memorial wall and when it filled up, Roxane designed the next one. They also do the organization’s Jean Rummy award that goes to an individual who has shown above-and-beyond service to the welfare of animals.
Roxane says her business has participated by sponsoring many of the HBSPCA’s projects such as the walk and the calendar.
But her family has also adopted two dogs from the SPCA, including Jasper, a golden doodle, last April.
She heard about the kennel guardian program recently and was happy for Aran Awards to participate.
“We are big advocates of adopting, not buying, dogs - we’ve had four,” Roxane says adding that during Covid it was hard to adopt.
“We like to have more than one dog at a time – an older and a younger. The older one helps to train the younger one.”
Roxane and John have two teenaged children and live in Ancaster.
