Donor highlight: Margaret Strecker
In 2006, we met Margaret Strecker for the first time. This animal-loving 4th generation Hamiltonian had heard some disparaging news about HBSPCA and our services. She decided to volunteer her time and talent to see for herself where our organization needed support. It started then with love and dedication; 17 years later Margaret is still here, still giving, still leading with love and dedication.
In her nearly two decades with us, Margaret has worn many hats—volunteer, foster mom, board member, donor, and community support for the Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate & Return Program. She is a woman of a thousand gifts and one of the biggest hearts we’ve ever seen.
Margaret served on our board for eight years. Two of those years were spent as Vice Chair of the Board, then Chair for another four. She volunteered with animal adoptions and ultimately offered her home and heart up to fostering several cats. When she learned that approximately 30,000 stray cats live in our community, Margaret focused her volunteer time on the TNVR (trap, neuter, vaccinate, release) community outreach program and helped upwards of 1500 cats from 2006-2009.
In 2016, Margaret received the Dr. Jean Rumney Award for her service to the HBSPCA and the community of pets and people she loves so much.
Of course, if you know Margaret, you know she has no intentions of slowing down or giving less time. She gives her whole heart still today to the Hamilton Community Cat Network, Pride Rescue, and the HBSPCA.
Margaret, you amaze us. Thank you for your time and talent. You are a treasure to our community and all the pets and people in it.
