Three Legs and A Whole Lotta Love

Imagine – you’re a clumsy, flopsy, happy three-month-old puppy with a whole lotta energy and a whole lotta love to give. In your first three months of life, you’ve already had two families, through no fault of your own. On one of your adventures with your first family, you took a tumble and your back leg starts hurting real bad. You didn’t know how to tell your paw-rents, and maybe they didn’t notice the injury, so you keep going. You don’t know it, but your back leg is healing improperly; the bones coming back together in ways that will lead to a lifetime of pain and discomfort for a girl that will grow so big someday.

This is Gigi’s story.

Gigi came to us in April and x-rays immediately confirmed what we suspected from her limp. She was placed on a pre-surgical dose of pain management and placed in the kindest of foster homes to rest before her surgery. For a big dog like Gigi, the best option for her to have a full adult life was to amputate the leg.

This is the best course of action to avoid a life of arthritis and stress on her hips and legs. On April 23rd, Gigi was prepped for surgery and her leg was removed in a near three hour surgery. Again, she went back to her foster home with a revised pain management dosage to heal.

It's been over a month now, and Gigi is THRIVING. She’s quite the goofball and is quite determined to master life on three legs. Her Foster Mom, Linda is not only spending time with her teaching her life around the house and yard on three legs but is also putting in the time for regular puppy training like house breaking and teaching her not to chew on everything in sight! This girl has so much personality and so much love to give, three legs does not slow her down and she will keep her forever family on their toes!

Gigi’s story is not rare around here, the rising cost of living means that owner surrenders are on the rise, shelters are full and we rely heavily on donations to continue expanding operations to help more animals that come through our door like Gigi.

Gigi’s cost of care to-date is over $7,500. Will you make a donation to help cover the cost of her care so that we can continue to take in animals in need just like her?
