Wellness Clinics are a big success!
Using a generous grant from PetSmart Charities, we launched our community outreach wellness clinics last year. Overseen by our Medical Director, Dr. Farr, the clinics are run by student veterinarians from the Ontario Veterinary College who provided exams, vaccinations, flea prevention, and deworming to 564 pets in 2022.
The Wellness Clinic teams visited pets and their people at the City of Hamilton apartment buildings, YWCA, Indwell, and the Eva Rothwell Centre.
“I have found such pride participating in community outreach initiatives like the HBSPCA Wellness Clinics,” says Student Veterinarian, Desiree M. “For me, it’s all about strengthening the human-animal bond and supporting my community members who can’t access veterinary care. Our companions can influence our mental, social, and physical health, so it is important that the veterinary community helps to remove barriers preventing that mutualistic relationship. Additionally, these clinics provide excellent learning opportunities and valuable hands-on experience with a team that truly cares.”
This year, we’re keen to expand our Wellness Clinic program and provide more care to more pets and their people in our community through health services. Please help us make this goal possible and donate today.
